This may just be one of the most important wedding tips that we have talked about, make a weekday date for your marriage license. You can not get married with out this. If you are not sure how to go about getting your marriage license we have a full post on it, Acquiring a Marriage License in Alberta.
To obtain your license you will go to a registry office. The agent you see will issue a two (2) part document, the top is a Registration of Marriage and the bottom is the actual marriage license. To acquire the license both of you must be there. Also you will need to provide your parent’s birth place and full names (including mother’s maiden name). That is why taking one day together to go fill out the paperwork and pay for this is such a good idea.
This FULL document must be given to the officiant who will be performing the marriage. Make sure you keep this in good condition with no folds
A marriage license is only good in Alberta for three (3) months from the date of issue and is only valid in the province of Alberta. This means the wedding MUST take place in Alberta.
