So you have already hired your photographer and now your wondering if you need a videographer. To be honest, you definitely don’t have to hire one but we highly suggest you do. Here is why!
We see this question being asked quite a bit on social media. We all know weddings cost a lot of money and it is so hard to know where exactly to budget all that money. Photography is usually one of the largest parts of your budget, I mean after all that is you will have left to remember your amazing day. Now photos are important but a video is just as special. We know a lot of brides have trouble deciding if it is worth it because it is such an investment. But let us tell you that a video can honestly capture so much more. Just think, to be able to hear your vows again, your family speaking on you special day and reliving all the awesome speeches at your reception. It is worth every penny!
When I (Kayla) was on the fence about hiring a videographer for my wedding last summer, I did a lot of research and I kept coming across brides who said that their one biggest regret was not hiring one. They all said the same thing “The day goes by so fast and it was hard remember all the tiny moments that just weren’t captured by photos“. So I decided to take the plunge and find a videographer and I am so happy I did.
I decided to go with a package that came with a highlight reel and a full day edited video. It was perfect for us, the hightlight reel is such a great way to share your wedding day again with friends and family because, lets be honest, no one really wants to watch your long full day video. If you haven’t seen a highlight reel before we have a gorgeous one up on the blog that you can watch here but basically it is a short (usually 3-7 minute) edited video showcasing all the important parts of your wedding day. Then we had the full day edited video as well and we love watching that one too.
One of my favorite things about having our video is getting to hear all the awesome speeches our family and friends wrote. These people take the time to sit down and write something so special about you and your spouse. It is amazing to be able to watch it for years to come. Another favorite thing about the video is getting to see opposite bridal parties get ready, since most brides and grooms do not get ready for the big day together it is exciting to see your other half getting dressed and prepping for the wedding. I know this may sound silly but whenever my husband opts not to wear a hat I will usually do his hair for him because he hates doing it. So before the wedding I took the time to teach him how to do his own hair and what products to use. He was pretty nervous about having to do his own hair on our wedding day, so watching him in the video concentrating so hard doing his hair was the cutest thing for me. These are just some of the moments that pictures just can’t bring back to life for you and they are special things that you will want to watch over and over again.
Definitely take the time and do your own research but we highly doubt you will regret hiring one. There are many different videographers out there and they have many different styles so find one that suits you. I have heard a lot of brides saying they think the videos are corny and cheesy but there are some very talented videographers out there whose work is far from corny or cheesy. One thing we definitely would not suggest though is having family or a friend record your video unless they are experienced. A lot of times important parts get missed or the sound and quality is lacking. Plus you don’t want to make a guest at your wedding have to work and not be able to enjoy your day with you.
We hoped this helped you decide if you were on the fence and we would love to see some of your wedding day highlight reels! Please share in the comments below or on our Facebook page here.
